Mint Julep
Prep time:
Bourbon, mint and a mountain of crushed ice in a metal cup that frosts over. More ritual than recipe, and that is rather the point.
Ingredients
- 60 ml bourbon
- 8-10 mint leaves
- 10 ml simple syrup
- Crushed ice, plenty of it
Preparation
- Put the mint and syrup in the cup and press gently with a muddler. Press, do not shred: torn leaves turn bitter.
- Add the bourbon and stir to combine.
- Fill halfway with crushed ice and stir until the outside of the cup begins to frost.
- Top with more crushed ice, mounding it into a dome above the rim.
- Plant a bouquet of mint next to the straw, so your nose meets it on every sip.
