
Irish Coffee
Prep time:
A warm embrace in a cup. Strong coffee, smooth whiskey, and slowly melting, floating cream. Invented at Foynes Airport, Ireland, in 1942.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz of Irish whiskey (Jameson)
- 4 oz of freshly brewed hot coffee
- 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
- lightly whipped cream (not too stiff)
Preparation
- Heat a heat-resistant mug with hot, empty water.
- Add the sugar and a splash of coffee; stir until dissolved.
- Pour in the whiskey and top with hot coffee, leaving 1 cm at the top.
- Pour the whipped cream gently onto the back of a spoon so that it floats.
- Do not stir; drink through the cream layer.
