What cookies are
Cookies are small files a site stores on your device to remember information between visits, such as the language you chose or whether you accepted this very notice.
They do not all do the same thing. Some are essential for the site to work and others measure how it is used. The first kind needs no permission; the second does, and we do not enable it until you grant it.
How we ask for your consent
On your first visit a notice appears at the bottom with two equally accessible options: accept or reject. Until you pick one, no analytics cookie is loaded and no data is sent to third parties.
Rejecting limits nothing: the site works exactly the same. We store your decision for six months; after that we ask again.
Necessary cookies
These are ours, shared with nobody, and need no consent because without them the site cannot provide the service you are asking for.
“i18n_locale” remembers whether you prefer the site in Spanish or English, so you are not sent back to the default language on every page. It lasts 365 days.
“tt-consent” stores your answer to this notice. It is what keeps the banner from following you around on every visit. It lasts 180 days and contains only the word “granted” or “denied”.
Session cookie
If you sign in with Google to rate recipes, a signed cookie called “nuxt-session” keeps your session open. It is strictly necessary — without it we could not tell it is you when you vote — so it needs no prior consent, but we are telling you about it anyway.
It is marked httpOnly, meaning no script can read it, and it contains no personal data: only an encrypted identifier of your Google account. It disappears when you sign out.
Analytics cookies
These are only installed if you accept them. We use Google Analytics 4 to know which recipes get read, from what kind of device, and which pages nobody ever finds. It helps us decide what to write next.
“_ga” and “_ga_0KV0TZXFX2” are set by Google and serve to distinguish visitors and keep session state. Google issues them with a two-year expiry, although most browsers cut that to 400 days, and some to considerably less.
We do not use that data to identify you, and we do not cross-reference it with anything you send us through the contact form or the community section.
Alongside this we measure visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which installs no cookies and does not track people across sites. That is why it works without asking your permission.
International transfers
If you accept analytics, the data collected by Google Analytics is processed by Google LLC and may be transferred outside the European Economic Area, including to servers in the United States.
Those transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and, failing that, on the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. You can find the detail in Google’s privacy policy.
Advertising
The site currently shows no advertising and installs no advertising cookies.
If we enable Google AdSense in the future, we will say so here and in the cookie notice itself, and it will require its own consent, separate from analytics.
How to change your mind
At the foot of any page you will find the “Cookie preferences” link. Clicking it brings the notice back so you can choose again.
If you switch from accept to reject, we delete any Google cookies in your browser right then. You do not need to do anything else.
You can also block or delete them from your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on that Google itself provides. Bear in mind that deleting the necessary cookies will make the site forget your language and show you this notice again.
